As a fashion stylist, I am always looking to meet industry players. Enter Mauricio and Roger Padilha. They started their own fashion PR firm years ago that caters to young, up-and-coming designers, a niche they helped carve. I had been wanting to meet them for years, particularly because we are all originally from Brazil. However, when I first saw them in person during a Fashion Week show, I was at first a bit intimidated to approach them. I don’t feel this way often, but they are always in black and look so fierce. Eventually curiosity got the best of me, and I finally worked myself up to talk to them. I’m so glad I did. These brothers are so nice and easy to talk to. We set up an interview and it wasn’t long before they were telling me about their lives growing up in NYC, the early years of their careers, their book about the multi-talented artist Stephen Sprouse and legendary illustrator Antonio Lopez, and many other super interesting things. I hope you enjoy.

If you live in NYC and spend time in Soho and the Lower East Side, you might have noticed the drip paintings of faces lining the streets there. Those are the work of Paul Richard, a brilliant and intriguing street artist who eschews the gallery scenes and generates his own buzz. After I first saw his work and got to learn a bit about him, I decided to reach out to see if he would meet with me for an interview. It took a couple of months for us to connect, but once we did, he generous agree to do a drip of me . How cool is that!!?? Below is my video interview of Paul Richard, done in collaboration with Joshua Paul Jhonson. I hope you enjoy it.

She needs no introduction to those who are in the know – she’s a legend in the world of fashion. And she’s still a knockout at the age of 82!! I have to be honest – I didn’t know the extent of Carmen Dell Orefice’s history until I had the chance to work with her recently on a Terry Richardson shoot. After the shoot, I was fortunate enough to spend some time with her and started to discover her backstory. What I have learned about Carmen since makes me feel privileged and humbled to have met her.

Carmen started her carer at a very young age, having been discovered by the great Richard Avedon. She went on to dominate the modeling world and has worked with most of the top fashion talent in the world, including Irving Penn. She was also Salvador Dali’s muse!! I wish a museum would curate an exhibit in her honor because she is a living fashion legend!

Eager to learn even more about her, I, in collaboration with the film maker Joshua Paul Johnson, recently sat down with Carmen in an interview at the new, fashionable Hotel Americano in Chelsea. We talked at length about her life, her perspectives on the fashion as well as new projects on which she is working. Here is an excerpt from our interview – please enjoy!

It’s always exciting to discover an artist whose star is rising and who you think will be the next big thing. Well, I think I may have discovered one in Scooter Laforge. I had the chance to meet him when I recently went to his Tribeca studio to shoot this video, and he is one of the sweetest people in NY that I had the chance to meet. Yes, he is a complete sweetheart!

He is a formally trained painter, holding a painting degree from the University of Arizona and having subsequently won a fellowship to study at the Cooper Union School of Art. His style is pop art meets abstract expressionism, and his work incorporates an eclectic range of subject matter, from portraitures and landscapes to iconic cartoon characters. His art has been sticking chords with many. His works have been displayed throughout New York City, including at Exit Art, Wooster Projects, Feature Inc and Bucheon, he has a permanent installation at Barney’s Flagship Store, and he has recently collaborated with Niki Minaj.

Scooter also has a love affair with fashion having started his own clothing and underwear lines that are sold exclusively in the East Village store of Patricia Fields. I’m sure he’s going to be a huge star. After all, New York is the concrete jungle where dreams are made!
